Canada Edges Denmark to Stay Perfect at Women’s World Curling Championship
Team Canada kept its unbeaten start intact Monday afternoon in Calgary, holding off Denmark 9-6 to improve to 4-0 at the 2026 BKT World Women’s Curling Championship. Kerri Einarson’s rink from Gimli, Manitoba, was tested throughout by Madeleine Dupont’s Danish side, but Canada made the key shots late to come through with another important round-robin win at the WinSport Event Centre.
It was a high-level battle between the skips, with Einarson shooting 92 per cent and Dupont close behind at 86 per cent. Canada started well with two in the first end, but Denmark answered quickly and stayed within striking distance all game. After the Danes tied it 6-6 through nine ends, Canada got the break it needed in the 10th when Denmark’s lead hogged her first stone, opening the door for Einarson to score three and put the game away without needing her final throw.
The match also gave Canada something valuable beyond the standings: a full-pressure 10-end test against a strong opponent. Val Sweeting said games like that help the team learn the ice in the later ends and prepare for the close contests expected against top competition. Canada returned to the ice with a perfect record and a busy Tuesday schedule ahead, facing Italy in the morning and Switzerland in the evening as the host team looked to keep its momentum going in Calgary.
